Prayer Resources
The Metro Atlanta Black Bourgeois Association believes implicitly that the same God that sustained us in and through slavery, sustained us during the Jim Crow era Black Codes & lynching, and provided both the guiding leadership and the ethos of the Non-Violent Civil Rights Movement will lead African America through the issues we face in Post-Modernity. Pre-European contact African Religion and Religious expression (especially spiritual and musical) have played a central role in African American culture from day 1 on these shores and public Christianity (which is not to minimize the role other religious experiences and religions have played) has been a profound feature of what it means to be Black politically, culturally and economically. Many African retentions remain in Black American Christianity including the emphasis on The Spirit and ecstatic possession by that Spirit, call and response musical and preaching patterns and an emphasis on physically dynamic worship that often includes dancing, arm waving, clapping and many other forms of musical and spiritually contextualized movement.
Prayer is a central feature of all the Bible based religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) and we believe that no matter what religion you belong to prayer is a fundamental feature of creating positive change in individual lives and the lives of communities as a whole. Were not our noble forefathers in the Civil Rights Movement praying and singing gospels and spirituals as they steeled themselves against the fists, billy clubs and attack dogs of the police? Long before a single brick was laid in the name of Morehouse, Spelman, Clark, Morris Brown and ITC our ancestors sent ‘timbers on up to heaven’ through prayer and laid the foundation for generations of African Americans to receive higher education. Imagine the strength of the prayers of generations of enslaved Black women as they prayed for the children stolen and sold right off their breasts.
Dear reader you may or may not be able to be a ‘Financial’ member of the Metro Atlanta Black Bourgeois Association but we solicit your prayers not only for our organization but for the condition of our families, our children, our schools and in healing the effects of intergenerational poverty and racism, most signified by crime and incarceration rates. Beloved prayer changes things! Not only African America but America and the world are in desperate need of REVIVAL! Pray for the move of the Holy Spirit on all flesh and creation. PRAY!
On this page you will prayerfully find resources you may find helpful in your walk with God and prayer life. I’m not perfect. This organization isn’t perfect, isn’t Holy and isn’t pretending to be. One look at the cussing in some of these essays and the raunchy tone of some of the writings will tell tell you that. But we believe we have been founded on the ‘Rock of Ages’ and we are absolutely serious with our guiding motto…GOD-FAMILY-EDUCATION-COMMERCE-INDUSTRY. We believe that if African America prioritizes these things in that order, we can’t help but rise and again evolve into one of the most dynamic and prosperous cultures and peoples the world has yet seen. ‘Children Let’s Pray’!
