Memoir of Major General (retired) Charles M. Hood, Jr., in his ascension from segregated Richmond, Virginia to the Commanding General of the US Virgin Islands, National Guard. General Hood shares his story of family, education, hard work, determination and drive through 35 years of military service and leadership. From Hampton University and starting his career in the Army as a Second Lieutenant, to various leadership, command and staff positions in the US, Vietnam, Germany, and culminating with his last military position as Adjutant General of the National Guard and Executive Director of Emergency Management for the Territory of the US Virgin Islands.
